Help text guidelines - aside was created by WGroleau
If an item is self-explanatory, or the help text has not been written, could the help icon be omitted? It's mildly irritating to click the icon and get a popup that says "Help text not available" or a popup that merely repeats the display (presumably written to prevent a "not available").

For example, one that's older than SVN:
"Show empty boxes on Pedigree charts"
Click the icon and see
"This option controls whether or not to show empty boxes on Pedigree charts.";
By the way, does that affect only pedigree charts, or does it also affect descendancy or others?

Wes - I don't find this help objectionable - in fact, a bit more explanatory than the title, even though it contains no additional content. Your followup question however, is excellent. Not sure where that is, but in PRIVACY, the full explanation on Show Private Relationships is now:
Show private relationships
This option will retain family links in privatized records. This means that you will see empty "private" boxes on the pedigree chart and on other charts with private people.
This is similar to the behavior of webtrees versions prior to v4.0.
This setting is off by default. It is recommended instead of turning this on, to point your pedigree root person in your GEDCOM configuration to a person who is not private.

Of course the comment on webtrees v4.0 should probably be struck from the text.

Well, I don’t find it offensive, but if there were anything I didn’t understand about the title, I’d click for help and wouldn’t get any. If I read the title, I could write that “help”. But it's no big deal. Just my opinion, and you guys are the bosses.
There's already a bug report on "prior to webtrees 4.0" but I'm not sure whether it's the same file.
If there are two settings that attempt to do the same thing, then one of them should go away.

If this is correct, then due to their similarity, maybe they should be in the same config section, or mention each other in their help text.

On further reflection, I don’t think they do the same thing. I think one is only for pedigree, and puts empty boxes for ancestors that aren’t in the DB.If there are two settings that attempt to do the same thing, then one of them should go away.
