Short answer: no.
I would advice against having multiple trees exactly for this reason.
However, I do have two main trees: one for my own ancestors and another for the ancestors of my wife. That means we both are present in both trees with some data differences. This was a deliberate decision because in real life as well these families don't mix well.

Use of the word "Common" is probably not what you want to ask!
Of course an individual (we are not talking about fungi) can participate in multiple trees, the problem is that the actual instance of the record for that individual can not be shared by multiple trees (same website or between websites).
As Bert indicated an individual can be in a tree that represents the males side of your parents and another tree can represent the female side of your parents on the same website. But when your parents married and had you as a child some data will need to be duplicated to the other tree to form the family unit that is your parents and you!
Tree 1 (your father) would have his ancestors and a record for your mother and you.
Tree 2 (your mother) would have her ancestors and a separate record (not the same as tree 1) for your father and you.
This gets even more complicated if at some time in the past your father's and mother's ancestors included the same individual, two separate records instances would need to be created and maintained. As Bert said having two trees is not always the right thing if an individual at any time in history may need to be duplicated in both trees!
