Although I don't know TNG I am confident most of these issues can be resolved. First of all you should make yourself familiar with GEDCOM 5.5.1 and maybe the latest GEDCOM 7.x, see
webtrees.net/gedcom/
Next step is to understand the difference between attributes, events and facts. GEDCOM 5.5.1 says on page 35:
As a general rule, events are things that happen on a specific date. Use the date form ‘BET date AND date’ to indicate that an event took place at some time between two dates. Resist the temptation to use a ‘FROM date TO date’ form in an event structure. If the subject of your recording occurred over a period of time, then it is probably not an event, but rather an attribute or fact.
A graduation, a promotion or joining the army - on a specific day - would be an event, a military service - over a period of time - would be a fact.
Instead of
1 MILS Joined the Army in the Royal Sussex Regiment
2 TYPE Military Service
2 DATE Jul 1914
2 PLAC Brighton, East Sussex, South East, England
it should be
1 EVEN Joined the Army in the Royal Sussex Regiment
2 TYPE Military Service
2 DATE Jul 1914
2 PLAC Brighton, East Sussex, South East, England
Instead of
1 MILS Served with the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve
2 TYPE Military Service
2 DATE Bet 1905 and 1908
2 PLAC Brighton, East Sussex, South East, England
it should be
1 FACT Served with the Royal Navy Volunteer Reserve
2 TYPE Military Service
2 DATE FROM 1905 TO 1908 /* I believe this is what you want */
2 PLAC Brighton, East Sussex, South East, England
As administrator go to Control Panel > Modules > Genealogy > Data Fixes and enable the Search and Replace fix.
As administrator go to Control Panel > Family Trees > your tree > Data Fixes > Search and Replace.
Before making any changes export your GEDCOM so that you can import it later just in case you break something. You may need to experiment a bit in order to find the correct way to fix these issues. Do NOT press the Update All button unless you know exactly what's going to happen! Press the Search button first and on the records shown to you press the Preview button before you decide to apply a specific fix or even a global fix.
If - what I don't recommend - you decide to simply replace all MILS with EVEN (or FACT) regardless of whether they are events or facts, webtrees will be able to handle that because technically there's not much of a difference.
GEDCOM 5.5.1 in general does NOT support HTML, but webtrees offers two ways to deal with that.
As administrator go to Control Panel > Family Trees > your tree > Preferences. Close to the bottom there's a section titled Text. You may select either Plain Text or Markdown. Both options support links in different ways. See below and search this forum for Markdown.
GEDCOM 7 does support some sort of HTML, but no Markdown. But because webtrees currently doesn't support GEDCOM 7 I stick with plain text.
Instead of
2 CONT <b>Notes made by Dad (Edwin Snr.) in his small notebook</b> re the name 'Malkin'
it should be either plain text like
2 CONT Notes made by Dad (Edwin Snr.) in his small notebook re the name 'Malkin'
or Markdown like
2 CONT **Notes made by Dad (Edwin Snr.) in his small notebook** re the name 'Malkin'
Instead of
2 CONT ... is a shop in the Harry Potter Film Series. <a href=" www.harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Malkin ">Malkins' Robes for All Occassions
it should be either plain text like
2 CONT ... is a shop in the Harry Potter Film Series. www.harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Malkin Malkins' Robes for All Occassions
or Markdown like
2 CONT ... is a shop in the Harry Potter Film Series. [Malkins' Robes for All Occassions]( www.harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Malkin )
Both GEDCOM 5.5.1 and webtrees provide data protection by applying so called restrictions. See GEDCOM 5.5.1 page 60-61.
Instead of
2 _PRIVATE Y
it should probably be something like
2 RESN PRIVACY, LOCKED
or
2 RESN CONFIDENTIAL, LOCKED

General recommendations:
- As administrator go to Control Panel > Family Trees > your tree > Check for Errors. Data fixes exist for some of these errors or warnings.
- To achieve a specific goal create a dummy person, add events, facts and restrictions as needed and check the resulting raw GEDCOM.
- Use the Search and Replace > Preview feature to experiment and finally apply necessary single or bulk changes.
