Name order was created by mac.alter
After all these years, I was looking at a record and wondered -- what order should married woman's names be in
a)
1 birth name
2 married name 1
3 married name 2
_OR_
1 birth name
2 married name 2
3 married name 1

Wo liegt das Problem?
Du kannst in der Personenansicht (facts & events) oben rechts über "edit" die Namen in eine andere Sortierreihenfolge bringen.

What is the problem?
You can change the sort order of the names in the person view (facts & events) at the top right by clicking on "edit".

I wasn't implying there was a problem. Merely an opinion of name order.

You seem to have settled on birth name always first. That (to my logic) implies the following married names should be in chronological order with first marriage first and last marriage last.

stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v2.1.20

As with other facts, webtrees assumes that the first NAME record is your prefered one.

In normal operation, the birth name will be created before the married name - and this will be shown.

But if you want to show the married name instead of the birth name, then you can re-order the names.

The birth name I always show first. Thought my example was to show option for married name where there's more than one. I know when creating the record, (add wife) there's only option for one married name so usually I enter the first married name. Then one-by-one add subsequent married Ames after record ceated. (webtrees only method)

I usually add the spouse (or any individuals) with birth name first, then add any additional names later as I find out about them. The order of names only matters for which one is first in the INDI record as that one is considered “primary”, and used in displays like charts.

What is your question, how does order of name impact your use of webtrees?

My logic is the Name they were known as

my granddad name is William
but everybody call Bill so I made that the first name and birth name next one down

Nothing stops you from putting an individual’s most commonly used name first, but by tradition genealogists always place (and use) birth name as the primary name.

You misunderstood the thread owner, who means the order of the name tags:
as norwegian_sardines stated: genealogists always use the birth name (first) (for identification): this name will never change (other names do, during life).

For the others I do order by date ascending (if possible).

No, adding the newly-discovered name to the end is simply Webtrees' default method, You can reorder the names at any time from the edit menu...

I try to keep all my subrecords in chronological order.  I put birth name at the beginning of the person's GEDCOM.  I put each married name immediately before or after the associated MARR.  If there is a name change, I put the new name as close as possible to the reason (if any), like CHR, ADOP, DIV, IMMI, etc.

Generally, this requires me to "edit raw GEDCOM" but …
