Change webtrees folder name on server was created by Vicki L.
When I set this up, I gave the directory a long name on the server, webtrees.mysite.com and would like for it to be only webtrees, because it's now showing up as
mysite.com/webtrees.mysite.com
, which looks stupid. Can I change the directory name without destroying my site? What other files would need changed to point to the new name?

If you move webtrees to a new folder or new URL, you need to update the entry for "base_url" in the file data/config.ini.php

That was easier than expected, thank you! I also updated the website preferences data folder. The Manage family trees, change URL item will not let me change the URL, think it auto updated it. Now all the images show up in the ribbon across the top and the slideshow. However the images on the pedigree tree are all now 404. Is there a place I'm supposed to clear cache?

And did you also move the media files from /data/media/... to the new location? It would explain the 404s.
Alternatively, look at the HTTP headers for the 404s, and you'll get a more detailed error message.

Error images (404, 500, etc) are never cached. Fix the problem and they should appear.

The data folder is in the webtrees folder, so it stayed there when I changed folder names. I've noticed it's the thumbnails that are 404, full size pictures are all OK. Is there a way to regenerate thumbnails?
The only thumbnails missing are the ones on the pedigree tree. All others appear to be showing up correctly.
I tried looking at the http headers, but didn't see anything that looked like a thumbnail exception message.
I checked the server folders.
This appears to be where my thumbnails are cached: webtrees/data/fib-cache and there are a lot in that folder.
I can't actually tell what's in this folder: webtrees/data/cache because the contents aren't readable by me.

Each of the "red square with a number" error images will have a header "x-thumbnail-exception".
Note that "File not found" errors can also be caused by file permissions on the parent folder(s).

I think this is JustCarmen's "Fancy Image Bar".
It's nothing to do with the thumbnail images in webtrees.

*Successfully generated* thumbnail images are cached here. Failures are never cached.
But if you really want to delete this cache folder, go to control panel, website and choose "cleanup data folder"

hallo Greg,
are you still aware, that cleaning of folders does not work, if the data dir is not standard?
I moved my webtrees data one level higher than the base-url points to.
Now cleaning does no longer work for any action (update, caching, ..?).
