Historic events: sorting was created by Franz Frese
The sorting of the historic events is done by the end - date.
I think the sorting should be done by the beginning of the time of the event.

In worst case that can lead to not showing for example a president, although active at the death of a person (indi).

I believe sorting them by 'End Date' is the better method.

If the event occurred during the 'Individuals' lifetime then by 'end date' does ensure it is shown. I does seem confusing when you see such a 'historical event' that does not sit in date order as other 'Individual Events'. The 'historical event' covers the 'Individual' and their Events..

EG:

W V Malkin
Born 8th Dec 1918. The King at that time was George V who reigned from 1910 through to 1936.
Through that time Wynne was baptised saw the birth of her two younger sisters and emmigrated to NZ. So King Georges reign comes to an end After the Immigration to NZ therefore that 'Historic Event' "covers" that timeframe..

I know what I want to say I'm not sure I am saying it the right way.. Too much pain is not helping <Smile/Grimace>

It uses the same sorting and display functions as all dated events that have FROM /TO tags.

It’s been that way for about 20 years.

it could be easily changed if you want to, by using two entries instead of one. The first for the start date and second for the end.

Personally though I don’t see any priority to change it.

Do as Nigel has suggested. Use 2 events Start of... and End of... if it spans several years. Ages will then be calculated accurately.

I would do so, but the data of the historic modules included in webtrees or historic user extensions are not prepared that way.

But the modules with historical dates can be reorganized. I will think about that for my modules.
