Sharing geographic data? was created by Patrick
Hello,
I host several trees on my site ( www.webtrees.damia.ch ).
How can I share geographical data between all the trees?
Thank you in advance for your help!
Patrick

First on your Control Panel, under Modules - Geographic data you must enable one of the Map Providers, eg OpenStreetMaps.

Then back via "My page" to the site, in the menu Lists chose Place Hierarchy. You see at each country "The location of this place is not known." With the pencil next to it you can publish the location on the map.

Or in the Control Panel at the very bottom under Map is a link Geographic data which allows you to edit locations.

Locations created this way are always shared between trees. But the used hierarchy should be exactly the same.

stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v2.2.1

Bertkoor, thank you for your detailed reply! I don't think I explained myself very well.
All the locations of each tree are listed and located in the geographical data (Control Panel --> Map --> Geographical Data).
If I enter the name of an existing place in a tree, webtrees auto-completes it.
On the other hand, if I enter the name of a place that does not exist in this tree, but does exist in another tree, there is no autocompletion, i.e. no sharing between the trees. This is the subject of my request...

This is intentional.

Many people use place names that include addresses

Sharing these could allow users of one tree to identify private data on another.

Under these conditions, sharing is a risk. I understand this decision.
Thank you for the explanation, Greg.

Somewhere on here is a topic from someone who created a module to do just what you asked for.
Not sure who, but it “should “ be in the Customising section.

EDIT: I found this for that module on github:  github.com/tkempf/autocomplete_place_location

Not sure if it will still work. It hasn’t been updated recently.

@Nigel, thanks for the information, but I prefer not to take any risks with private data, as Greg advises.
Sincerely
