updating vesta was created by lotusmaikel
I see on my control page that there are several updates for vesta, now I would like to install them, but can't figure out exactly how.
is it as simple as downloading and overwriting the data on the webpage? will the current settings then stay the same or do i have to reset everything again (not a disaster, but equally important with planning when to update )
or am I overlooking something huge and should it be updated in another way?

it is like every module in webtrees: extract the downloaded zip from the module provider (vesta is
here
, others are at github), delete the corresponding subdir in modules_v4 (for not to have old files/dirs) and copy the extracted (files and dirs) into modules_v4 with the same name it has had before deletion.
If you do not want to use all of the vesta modules, you have to have the subdir vesta_common in each case and the vesta module dir of the part you want to use.
But, when I have a look at your webtrees site, you are at the latest version of vesta. If there is a newer version of vesta to install, you are informed on starting webtrees control panel.
Attention: If (one day) you update webtrees to a new version, the vesta modules will automatically be disabled (if they are not updated to a new compatible to the new webtrees version). But the vesta author has always been updated his software as soon as possible, so that a compatible version can be installed.
The vesta settings are in the database, so they are never lost on update.

Thanks for your response, it is true that I have the latest vesta module, after your first response I immediately updated it, so I guess we just crossed paths.
updating was indeed very easy to do. thanks for your explanation on this, it was my first time updating a module.
Updating webtrees and some delay with vesta i understand, this is also not a problem as far as i am concerned. (I don't usually grab the first update right away either).
