Question New custom module: Potts Historical Facts 1.1.0-beta.1

I have released the first public beta of Potts Historical Facts, a custom module for webtrees 2.2.x.

The module displays sourced regional historical events alongside an individual’s life facts, helping place family events within their broader historical context.

This is a beta release and I would appreciate testing and feedback, particularly with different themes, languages and mobile devices.

Requirements: webtrees 2.2.x and PHP 8.3 or later.

Download and installation instructions are available from the  GitHub release .

Please report any problems through GitHub Issues and include your webtrees version, PHP version, selected theme and screenshots where possible.

This is the first time when there is a possibility to have more collections of historical facts and also the user can choose which have to be displayed. 
My genealogy is in the middle of Europe - the former Empire of Austria-Hungary, where the countries in the 20th century changed a lot. So it would be helpful to have the possibility to select more then one set of historical facts. 

It is possible, that there will come in the future more and more files with historical facts. It would be great when the administrator would have the possibility to mark which files are enabled for the users.

También quiero añadir que el módulo es muy bueno y que, con la ayuda de cualquier IA, resulta fácil y rápido crear bases de datos propias, ya sea a nivel de ciudad, comarca u otros ámbitos. Desde que lo tengo activo en mi web, muchos usuarios me han comentado que lo utilizan satisfactoriamente (y muy asombrados). En mi caso, creé una base de datos bastante completa con información sobre mi ciudad natal, la comarca, la comunidad y el país. Como tuve algunos problemas para añadirla correctamente —seguramente por mi falta de formación informática—, decidí sustituir la base de datos de un país con el que no tenía ningún enlace por la mía propia. Y funciona perfectamente.

Por eso creo que poder elegir entre varias bases de datos sería tremendamente útil, tanto ahora como en el futuro.
A ver qué dice Potts.

I agree that this makes a lot of sense, especially for family trees that cover regions where borders and country names have changed over time.

I have released a new beta version which adds support for multiple historical fact collections.

In v1.1.0-beta.3:

• Users can now select more than one historical fact collection.
• Administrators can choose which collections are available to users.
• The site default can include multiple collections.
• Facts from selected collections are merged, de-duplicated and shown in date order.
• The module remains compatible with the old single-region setting.

I have also added some new starting collections for:

• Austria
• Hungary
• Czech lands
• Slovakia
• Poland
• Austro-Hungarian Empire
• Europe
• World events

These new fact files are only a starting point, but they should make the module more useful for wider European research. I also agree that people can create their own local or regional CSV files, such as a city, district, county or family-specific history file, and then use them with the module.

I am glad, that now we have a language independent tool for managing historical events. On the other hand it would be perhaps helpfull to take also the language into account. For example there are two files for Dutch history en_NL and nl_NL. Based on language selection it would be nice to have the dutch version when using Dutch as language and English version when other language is set. 

It would be great to make it easier to add own csv files.

And please add a possibility to translate the module .

Just a technical thing: when using the Custom Module manager it was not possible to update using it - it didnt recognize the new version. In the column Update service is displayed None.

As the author of Custom Module Manager (CMM), I regularly update the list of custom modules, which can be installed with CMM. I also try to keep in sync with the list of custom modules in the German webtrees handbook.

I have not added the Potts Historical Facts custom module yet, because its GitHub release is tagged as "Pre-release". If tagged as Pre-release, the GitHub API will not return the release data if requested by CMM. There would be some workarounds available to also offer Pre-releases; however, I want to rely on the oppinion of the module author about the status of the module and its releases. Therefore, I will wait until the module author decides that it is a regular release.
