Question Potts Family Book – public beta module for webtrees

Hi everyone,

I’ve published the first public beta of a new webtrees module called Potts Family Book.

The module allows site managers to create and publish family history books directly inside webtrees. It is designed for family history stories that are bigger than a normal note or story page, such as family booklets, memoirs, local histories, photo collections or ancestor narratives.Main features include:

• Create multiple family history books
• Add chapters to each book
• Add book covers and hero images
• Upload photos into each book’s own image folder
• Insert uploaded photos into chapter content
• Insert links to webtrees people, families, sources and media
• Public book library page with search
• Optional “Family books” tab on individual pages
• Print/export view
• Manager-only editing screens
• Basic health check and maintenance tools
• Bundled sample book using the English Royal Family as an example guide

This is a beta release, so please test it on a non-production site first if you can.

So before updating or replacing the module folder, make sure you back up  .

I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially around installation, usability, the book/chapter editing workflow and whether the image handling makes sense.

Looks interesting! A good way to capture family stories and anecdotes. I've installed and will let you know if I run into any issues.

I also noticed on your tree you have a "your book" button which automatically creates a book based on a selected individual. What module did you use to create that?

Just a question is there a possibility to change the order of chapters? Is it possible to add a new chapter between two existent chapters?

At the moment, new chapters are added to the end of the book.

The chapter order is controlled by the order of the chapter entries in `books.json`, so it is technically possible to change the order manually by moving a chapter entry higher or lower in that file. That also means a new chapter can be placed between two existing chapters, but currently it requires editing `books.json` directly.

I agree this would be a useful feature, so I will look at adding proper chapter ordering controls to the management page, such as move up / move down buttons or a reorder option. That would make it much easier and safer than editing the JSON file manually.

Hi Pottsy,

I've seen a book only can be made for max 8 generations. 
Can this be made more generations eg like 15 or 20?
And include all family members like with the brothers/sisters from my greatgrandfather and so on?

A great new module! I just started with a new book. The only user interface problem I had was that I have forgotten to use the “Save” button one time. I pressed “Show” instead and all changes were gone afterwards.
