Alternate privacy blurb was created by WGroleau
Instead of "This information is private and cannot be shown"
I think we could encourage collaboration with
"For privacy, information on this %s can only be shown to relatives who are logged in."
where %s is "family" or "person" (etc.)
followed by a link to "log in or request account"
(if relationship privacy is off, the current text or similar could be used)

What if you already are logged in, but this record is marked "admin only".
I would prefer to give the same "no data found" message for both missing and private records.

Wes, you would certainly need to change the bit "can only be shown to relatives ...", because that pre-supposes that the site policy is exactly that. Many sites choose to allow non-relatives significant access.
I would only support anything that simplifies the out put, so tend more towards Greg's suggestion.

I did say, “if relationship privacy is off“
On the other hand, I like the point about simplicity. However, I oppose simplification to the point of falsehood. Perhaps “data unavailable” ?
Then each admin could decide whether to explain what that means.

I would not favor a 'data unavailable' posting as this most definitely implies that data is present, but not shown, and causes more inquiries. Our experience shows that either someone is a relative and they know that more data exists and, in this case they should contact the admin to inquire about membership in the site, or they aren't familiar with the family and are simply fishing for information.

I disagree. To me, the current text "private and cannot be shown" explicitly states that data is present, but not shown.
"Not found" explicitly states that the data does not exist, which I would prefer to not say if it is a lie.
"unavailable" is intentionally vague, allowing it to be used for both cases without lying. As for inquiries, if I have clearly stated elsewhere on my site that membership is required for certain types of information, then I simply ignore inquiries for that information from non-members. Or I respond with a repetition of the invitation to join.
