Automatic update of webtrees was created by marwel
Hello,

the automatic update of webtrees also replaces the set of favicons in the root and in the public folder.
If the own installation has an own favicon, the files are overwritten.

My proposal:
Let the automatic update not overwrite the favicon files in the root and in the public folder.
These are: apple-touch-icon.png, favicon.ico, favicon-32.png, favicon-128.png, favicon-152.png, favicon-167.png, favicon-180.png, favicon-192.png

For me it is the task of the automatic upgrade process to upgrade and replace all core elements of webtrees. And for me the favicons are core elements. If you like to modify core elements you have to develop a custom module. In the case of favicons this is not trivial. Maybe a module that checks if the favicons are the standard ones or if they are your custom ones and then copies your ones to the destination if this is necessary?

On the one hand:
  1. you are right: favicons are core elements and should be auto-updated.
  2. webtrees™ is a great name for this genealogy software package (as webtrees itself is also great).
  3. The "W" icon is fine for the webtrees software package.
On the other hand:
  1. In a webtrees installation with real family tree data, the "W" icon is somehow not matching
I think a more symbolized icon (maybe with a tree) would match better to the genealogy task.
Am I the only one who thinks this way?

No, you are not the only one. It is ok to customize the favicons. Because of the specialities of how browsers can find favicons it is not trivial to customize them. So a custom module to customize them would be nice.
