You posted in the 1.7 forum. Are you still using webtrees 1.x?
> Do you have a registration captcha or anti-bot tool?
Yes - in webtrees 2.x
> from different ip addresses such as
Every request has a different IP?
A large number of IPs?
A small number of IPs?
Did you investigate any of them? If they all belong to the same server company/network (e.g. Hetzner), then you can block this entire network. (But only in webtrees 2.x)

Hello
fisharebest > You posted in the 1.7 forum. Are you still using webtrees 1.x?
>>Yes unfortunnately health problems (pricipally with my eyes) have really curtailed my activities, a very slow, old computer aslo hasn't helped.
fisharebest > from different ip addresses such as
>> downloaded the auth log cvs - from Thu 26 Oct 23 04:55:35 (103.107.132.138) to Wed 08 Nov 23 07:56:37 (186.179.100.119) and anything in between and totalling 272 attempts. I attach a pdf copy of it.
fisharebest > Did you investigate any of them? >> a couple with whois but far too many to do individually, but it seems not from the same server.
Can you please tell me if there is a way to take the website offline but still have access to view changes as I progressively make changes to it and upgrade to v2
That might be the only way to deny the responsible hackers access to the registration page.
Thank you muchly.
PS - with the forum text controls, is there a way to indent text?

Do you have many genuine users who want to register?
If no, then you can disable registrations in the control panel.
