add stories was created by mariannevanharten
The main page of my webtrees site contains an option "Stories".
How do I add a story? I can't find a button to edit (or modify or delete) stories.

Best regards,
Guido

In the control panel, many modules have a "config" icon next to their name.

e.g. in the list of "all modules", or in the list of "modules with menus".

Click the icon.

Sometimes I would like to add more than one story for a person.
It seems that isn't possible.
Can you help me?

An individual can have many stories.

But a story can only be linked to one individual

Is this still being worked on? It does not seem possible to edit or add stories unless you are logged in as admin. Is there some way editors could be able to do this?

Imho it is a bug.
Can you create an issue at GitHub:
Only admins can create a story!

The second:
The tab title says stories, but you can only edit a story.

Seems as if story is not stored within the gedcom.
So can not be recommended.

Thanks Franz. I was thinking of abandoning it. I could use notes but it doesn't offer the possibility of adding media or formatting. But I believe that is in the Gedcom.

Yes, notes are in the GEDCOM file, stories are not. Sories are stored in the database.

Is there any way to get the CK Editor to work in notes?

No, not CKE.  But you can use markdown language. Enable it in Family tree config, in the control panel.

But markdown is very clumpy for non-geeks to use so a better solution would be a nice to have.

> But markdown is very clumpy for non-geeks to use

Whatsapp (3 billion users) uses a subset of markdown; bold/italic/strikethrough,bullets.

Anything can be 'clumpy' for geek or non geek TBH IMHO!

I have slowly got an idea about markdown, but still have to check how to do things..

I have been looking at ways to provide some sort of 'help' for the 'non geek' types and me too BTW!

I have managed to add a link to a markdown cheat sheet site, to one part of the note building structure but have found indeed it is only one PART or how notes are done.. So I am looking to improve upon that..

As I am a not serious coder, I do doubt I could build everything into a Module, but hopefully provide some one who can with some incentive to DO!

I will try to get this done ASAP..

Attached pic shows effort so far..

This was achieved by adding a few lines of code to the app/Elements/NoteStructure.php file..

Good point but I'm not sure many of those users employ markdown in their messaging. And here we are not talking about a messaging platform but a place where serious data is deposited long term. My idea for webtrees and our organisation is not as a hobby but as a continuation of a 250 year old tradition and duty to maintain the records of the inheritors of Simon Heinrich Sack. I would like to see webtrees become our depository also and that our descendants will be able to edit and maintain their records. We are only in the experimental stages at the moment and there has not been a budget allocated for this to date. I am trying to sort out all the objections which could come in advance so that we can get approval from our board.
For us this is not a hobby. I'm just pointing our where I'm coming from here and in no way would want you to think these are disparaging remarks.
Webtrees is an amazing piece of software and I am sure its creators would be happy to see continual improvement by the community.

Brilliant! I am afraid I'm not a programmer. I've tried playing with AI to make mods but it never quite gets there (early day yet).
Another issue is the language problem. How would we handle the language issue in notes? In Stories it's handled the conventional webtrees way, which gets the job done but it's a bit awkward but one can live with it.
I saw this - I don't know if this could be a possibility: github.com/mundimark/awesome-markdown-editors

I found this as an alternative idea: word2md.com/
You can paste a word file into it and it is converted to Markdown. Another way to go but if we just had a converter in there it would be better of course.

It's not just notes. Language is a structural issue in GEDCOM.
Places, occupations, most 'free text' fields don't go through any translation.

Regarding Markdown fomatting, my advice is "less is more". If you need a lot of formatting in notes, then try a wiki engine or a CMS and not webtrees.

You are absolutely right - and asking people to use the browser translator is not the ideal solution. I'd ike to see something like the transposh plugin from Wordpress )which doe auto translation with on page edtiing) implemented. But that is probably asking too much.

I am aiming to try and keep everything within webtrees where I can easily link to the tree and also to develop it into a rich experience for the users. Got a long way already and I am just seeing where the limitations are. I still think that a slightly developed Stories would be best as exporting the gedcom is not an issue for us.
