It didn't help the

much though ... the webpage rendering didn't put in any <br /> tags in the paragraph

rendering the GEDCOM NOTE record
Code:

I'm among the users who converted to webtrees for primary software, and downgrading looks like the best option for folks who can't import all over again, until there is a way to fix new versions. If users would be expected to modify GEDCOM then there must be a new entry for "Data fixes" to make this update workable. There would also need to be significant changes to the fact editor so that the output doesn't look mangled compared to the input.

There are already possibilities to use webtrees v2.0.19 with "correct" formatting or as it was originally intended by the user. But for this, Markdown formatting would have to be enabled in the settings and the Vesta Classic LAF addon v2.0.19.0.2 would have to be used. Tested on my site.

If you don't want to solve this on this way, you can also work with webtrees v2.0.17, but you would have to use the file /app/Elements/TextFromSource.php from v2.0.16. Tested on my site before I have updated to v.2.0.19.

If all of this is too much for you and you still want to have the line breaks displayed as usual, you have to use webtrees v2.0.16 at the moment.

The markdown standard can be found here: thttps://commonmark.org/

webtrees uses a library which is commited to following this standard exactly: commonmark.thephpleague.com/

Tables are a markdown extension.
webtrees uses the table-extension, described here: commonmark.thephpleague.com/2.1/extensions/overview/

We also have two of our own extensions.
1) supports the census tables created by webtrees 1.x
2) converts XREFs into links.

Greg, part of the problem is that displaying CONT lines is broken even if markdown is disabled, see here .

Thank you for clarifying this. It might have been helpful to start the discussion before letting hundreds of users run into the dilemma.

Still running v2.0.16 because v2.0.23 still has no fix for this.

Has anyone found better luck with the new v2.1.0?

Could you share a hardcopy and the corresponding GEDCOM, please?
