importing data was created by joseph
Hello,

I am still learning the basics about webtrees and have been exploring importing data from other geneaology databases/websites.

How does importing work, and not how to upload a file.  This si Get.

But, if we find information that we want to incroporate that we found elsewhere, and we already started our family tree in webtrees.

What do we do?   I upload it, and connect it to my current family tree?   I've never looked at this before, or tried to do it.   Do all the individuals that are uploaded become individual people in webtrees, and i need to reconnect them together and to the  already existing family tree members that I have?

I read on ancestory.com that you can download al the data that you have found, or only parts of it.

In a nutshell, how do I add data found an downloaded from other systems(in gedcom format of course)and integrate it in my webtrees system?

Thanks

Joseph

Thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately, I do not speak or read German.

Is there an English,or French version of this handbook giving the same information?

Thanks

Joseph

simply create a separate tree for each family tree and merge one into the other, don't forget backups) within control center
1. make sure xrefs in both trees are disjunct ( if not or always use control panel / family tree / renumber xrefs)
2. use control panel / family trees / merge family trees (shown if you have more than one tree)

To read the German webtrees manual, you can use a translation function of your browser. That is available for many browsers and translates the whole page on the fly for you.
