Hi, I've installed webtrees 2.0.21 on Yunohost and things are working fine so far. I've migrated from my shared hosting server and imported the data.
Now I would like to create a new user account. I go to the webtrees log-in and click on register and fill out the register form. I register as a user who is already present in the Yunohost user database. When I submit the form (via Firefox), I get a gray page with nothing on it. When I do the same with the Brave Browser, it gives me a HTTP ERROR 500.

I've tried a different method with the admin user and I've created the user in the admin panel. That has worked until the point I (as admin) want to confirm the user by checking the checkbox "confirmed by the administrator" (or so). So in the users admin page I check that checkbox and the next page is also gray and nothing happens. So I end up with not being able to confirm the new user.
I've tried another user with a different E-mail address (no present as a Yunohost user) and the same happened again.
There is nothing relevant in the webtrees webserver log file. No entry was generated about my attempt to confirm the new user.

Do you have any idea what this could be or what else I could try? Somehow I suspect that it has to do with the user management and Yunohost, but I don't know where the problem is.
The administration pages tells me that I've an outdated PHP-Version (7.3.33). Not sure why this is and how I can switch to a newer PHP Version. I do have PHP 8 installed (not myself but via some other Yunohost apps). I'm also not sure if this is related to my user registration problem.

Thanks in advance for you help.
Hermann

Updating webtrees to 2.0.22 has fixed the user registration problem.

However, the PHP-Warning is still there.

I've noticed that PHP 8 is not supported with wt 2.0.22.
Not sure if I should upgrade PHP myself to the supported version 7.4 because this is a Yunohost environment and it may interfere with Yunohost updates.

I did make a fresh install of webtrees on Yunohost and this error message is still there. I was hoping that at least the latest version of webtrees come's with the right PHP version, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Hermann,

First, I would ask if your host can turn off PHP v8.0 and turn on PHP v7.4. Some providers have a simple switch that they can set to use different versions of PHP.

If they do not have that ability, then you will have to install v7.4 on your own or wait for the release of webtrees version 2.1 that does support v8.0 and 8.1 of PHP.

the PHP-Warning is still there.

It's merely a warning...

stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v2.1.20

I'm on a VPS and from my understanding I would have to install 7.4 myself. However, since I'm using Yunohost, I'm hesitant to do that since I'm not sure if something breaks when I do that. Normally updates should be taken care of by the Yunohost packages themselves. Since I don't have a public instance of WT, I assume I can wait for the release of WT 2.1. On the other side I did already manually upgraded WT to 2.0.22. I think I anyways wait for WT2.1 and see if things are solving by itself (i.e. WT 2.1 is automatically using PHP 8). I'm not so experienced with PHP admin...

Thanks all, for your comments. www.webtrees.net/index.php/en/forum/help...ll-there/reply/90134

Ps. Just in the case someone wonders where the media are in webtrees for Yunohost (Linux). It is still /var/www/webtrees and one has to use su or sudo to get access to that directory. Then it is possible to paste in images in bulk, even circumvent the file size limitation of 2MB.
