I'm trying to find the folder for thumbnails. Thought there would be one in data/media/foldername given by user but not there. Before webtrees was able to remove image and thumb to replace with same name file (update).

I don't understand what you are saying. The thumbnails are stored in the folder data/cache. They should not hinder webtrees from uploading and replacing an image file with the same name.

I do not have those folders.

So you can remove them without loss of functions. I am sure they will not be recreated.

If you like, do a backup.

webtrees 1.x stored thumbnail images here.

webtrees 2.x has many different sized thumbnail images, which are stored in /data/cache - along with all other cached items.

Earlier in this thread I'm told thumbnails are in cache. I expected a folder as you say but don't have one.

Sorry for any confusion. As I know that thumbnails are typically located in the path data/media/foldername/thumbs. However, it seems there might be variations depending on the version of webtree. Have you checked the /data/cache directory as suggested by fisharebest for webtree 2.x.

Are you saying that you want to provide your own (custom) thumbnail file to replace the one generated by webtrees?

This isn't possible.

Instead, consider adding a second media file to the media object. webtrees will create a thumbnail from the first file.

For example, if your media object is a PDF file, you can add a JPEG which will be used as its thumbnail.
