website performance was created by godzil
Hello,

i observed low performance of my website for some time. My tree is small sized but for some reason it take >2,5s to load complete page. Most of it is consumed by "waiting for server response" - at least 1,5s. In general it took more when i'm logged so my guess it's due to privacy calculation.
Question is how to troubleshoot what taking so long? Is there any way to test is it related to sql or php performance?

Facts:
shared php hosting (256mb memory)
shared sql database
1500 individuals
20 custom modules enabled
usind admin account - not sure whether it trigger privacy calculation

With an Admin account you're skipping the privacy calculations.

Maybe cut down on the extra custom modules a bit. Which are essential, which are eye candy?

NB as a visitor I find the site is OK. 1-2 secs to load a page is not very snappy, but  not bad at all.

stamboom.BertKoor.nl runs on webtrees v2.1.20

Nothing to do with performance, but you do not have the latest version of h&hwt interactive tree. (or my changes for mobile usage are lost).

i disabled image fancybar and load page are 2 times faster - especially in user experience but also in load time. seems disks speed must be limited.

also updated h&hwt interactive tree but not clear why it wasn;t listed at control panel as upgradable :)

thank you guys, closing for now

Please check whether the cache in MySQL is enabled, which will reduce the number of queries and improve the loading speed of the web page.

It is said that your internet page is getting very slow due to the long period of time the "waiting for a server response" is lasted. Since your shared hosting service has only 256 MB of memory, and you have a lot of people and custom modules to manage, the situation is likely to be the reason for resource constraints being the shooting. The first step in solving your problem is to watch the usage of your server's resources which includes CPU and memory consumption, and you can do that using the tools such as top or htop. You may want to have a glance at your PHP error logs for any signs of the problems such as slow scripts. Moreover, you might want to use New Relic or Query Monitor to check the performance of your PHP scripts and SQL queries. In case you think that the privacy computations are the reason for the performance being affected while you are logged in, you can compare the load times between guest and admin accounts.
