Can I update from MySQL 5 to 8? was created by mboucher
My install of Wordpress on the same server with my webtrees wants me to upgrade from MySQL 5.x to mysql 8.0 or higher. Will that cause a problem with my webtrees site?
not sure how to do that but asking first before changing anything.
thanksĀ

Shouldn't be a problem. I develop and test with MySQL 8

Thanks. Not managing the server, but renting space with other apps, I called IONOS and they recreated my database. (Which apparently I could have done if realized that) Since I didn't give them the password no data in the config file was changed, but now it says MySQL8.2 in the server info page. A little confused whether this should have worked or not, but it does. I have a new database on the server under MySQL 8 and the old one under MySQL 5.7.
I am thinking of deleting the one under 5.7, but not sure how this works.
Having a problem with my Wordpress install as well, but I gave them the password and they changed my config file. No new database for that so again confused. (Wordpress still not working with 8.2; still at 5.7)
Any clarification for an old an not very savey server user?

> Wordpress still not working

It is almost impossible to help someone when the only description says "XXX is not working" or "I can't YYY".

Tell us exactly what the the problem is. Error messages, etc.
