Sources ; Best practices ? was created by dufau68
Bonjour !
I have hundreds of documents (originals, copies, scans,...) and I want to specifiy a source for 99.99%, mainly for official documents or records.
My most common problem : I would like to add the source information for a birth record :
  • AD76 : Archives Départementales de la Seine-Maritime (the repository)
  • Le Havre - Naissances - janvier-juin 1875 - 4 E 8860 Acte n° 705 (the actual "book" where the record can be found, its "cote" or Id.) This one would be the book containing birth records for the city of Le Havre, from January to July 1875 and numbered 4 E 8860, and 75 bieng the sequence number in this book.
  • vue 179/343 : page number
  • URL if possible, but could be added as a note)
To add a source, I have this screen :

What would be the best practice to correctly add my info ?

Here is a discussion on this topic of around 4 years ago:

You can read there about some common approaches.

Good luck!
