When posting to the forum, there are times that supporting information is needed. You can attach a file to a post and display it in two different ways. Attached files must conformed to these limits:

• Allowed file extensions : jpg, jpeg, gif, png, pdf, zip, txt, gz, tgz
• Maximum File Size : 1.5 MB Maximum Image File Size : 2.9 MB

Step 1 is to select Add Files….

You then select the image file you want to attach on your file system. For this example we will attach file tree.png.

Step 2 Once the file is attached to your screen, you now have two options; 1- insert the image into the text of your post and then Submit or, 2 – attach the file to your post by simply selecting the Submit option. Option 2 will require the viewer to select the link at the bottom to see the image.

Note: image files are not stored into the actual text. Instead, the file(s) are stored on the server and the image placement takes place when you view the post.

The code block feature lets you insert and edit blocks of pre-formatted code. It is perfect for presenting programming-related content in an attractive, easy-to-read form.

Use the code block toolbar button Insert code block and the type dropdown to insert a desired code block. Alternatively, start a line with a backtick, and the autoformatting feature will format it as a code block. To add a paragraph under a code block, simply press Enter three times.

Editing text around code blocks

There could be situations when there is no obvious way to set the caret before or after a block of code and type. This can happen when the code block is preceded or followed by a widget (like a table) or when the code block is the first or the last child of the document (or both).

To type before the code block: Put the cursor at the beginning of the first line of the code block and press Enter. Move the selection to the empty line that has been created and press Enter again. A new paragraph that you can type i n will be created before the code block.

There are two was to type after the code block:

1. Put your cursor at the end of the last line of the code block (see 1 below) and press Enter two times and then the backspace key. A new paragraph that you can type in will be created after the code block.
2. Select the Source button (3) and position after the closing [/code] tag.

A point worth noting is that when your in the code section, the bottom left of the editor will show code (see 2 below).


** Requesting Help and Suggestions

Whether you are new to webtrees, or an "old hand", we recommend you read this page. It will help you get the best from the support available here, without wasting any of your time, or ours.

Here are some things you can do to help:

1. If you have a technical issue related to migration from 1.7 to 2.0 please read the webtrees FAQ before posting.
2. It would be easier to help you if you told us the address of your site. But remember, we need the address of your webtrees site, not whatever other pages it is embedded in. Please don't make us hunt for it. Tip: you can put this in your forum signature.
3. If you are having server problems, it helps if you tell us how your server is configured. Some people like to put that information in their forum signature as well.
4. Check to see if your question has already been answered. You can search these forum pages from the "Search" tab.
5. If you "think" you have found a bug, first check our bug list, then come back here and ask before reporting it. Perhaps we already know about it, or (heaven forbid) perhaps it is something you don't fully understand and not a bug at all!
6. If English is not your first language, we recommend you write the Subject in Englishand write Message in your own language, but also add a translation into English (perhaps use Google Translate or DeepL for that). If possible we will reply in your language, or we will also use Google.
7. Forum posts should be on topic as much as possible.  This helps you get help quicker.
8. Do not use forum posts, signatures or avatar links for advertising, or solicitation. 
9. Do not overpost or add needless comments that do not add value to the forum.
