How can I delete an individual? was created by stephenbee
Hi All,

webtrees is great open standards-based software and I am hoping to recommend it to my extended family in their genealogy project. However I have tried entering some individuals and gotten one of them wrong. I can't for the life of me see how one deletes an individual.

I've searched the FAQ, the Wiki, and the forums for an answer to this. I am the administrator of the database, but don't seem to have any luck. I'll happily write up the answers in the FAQ/Wiki once I know.

Thanks in advance,

Stephenbee

Well that's a duh from me. There is an edit icon (the blue person) that has a 'delete this individual' button.

Probably worth keeping this question here for others to find.

Stephen, these comments are actually very useful. We try to make the software "obvious" to use, but it is hard to see it from a new user's perspective. Where did you look to find a "delete" option?

....and don't forget that an edits/additions/deletions are only "pending" until they are accepted/rejected.

....unless, of course, you have configured your account to "automatically accept changes"

I looked for a delete Icon by the whole person, just as details can be deleted. That's what confused me I guess. I know that from a database point of view this does not make sense but I didn't have my (former) RDB designer's head on. :-(

Welcome aboard. If you like v1.06 - wait until you see v1.1, coming in about a week (maybe less).

I agree from a user view,
delete shortcut/icon would be nice either left of person siluet/pic, or right of ind. name.

It also took me awhile to delete favourites... ok the link is there, but its small and text only.

(Just my opinion)

JOHO and experience, but deleting an INDI should be a very rare occurrence. Hardly one to make readily available or provide to it more weight or preference than many other, much more common functions. I would never favor featuring a delete link. My users already think that deleting a person attached to a wrong family as a child or spouse is the right approach to remedying the problem rather than using the CHANGE FAMILY MEMBERS function that preserves the previous work.

Thanks for all the responses.

I don't think the present interface needs to be changed.

However I do think the documentation needs beefing up. If the wiki were open I'd happily contribute to this.
