Solved accidental deletion of person leaves ellipses

Thinking that there were two of the same persons due to a confusion between the two languages, I accidentally deleted the person and now I see ... ...
So my question is how can I re-insert the name of the person and their information?

If you are on a Individual's page, you might have deleted the name only. Menu Edit - add name again.
If you had for instance John Doe married to Jane Smith, with a child Peter Doe, suppose you deleted John Doe, you are left with Peter Doe having just a mother. This single-parent family will have the title "... ... and Jane Smith". There isn't a person record with "..." as a name. It's a temporary situation you have all the time while adding parents.
On the family page also Menu Edit - Change family members. Or on any family tab of a person you can add the missing spouse again.
If this was a recent removal, the gedcom data you removed might be easy to find via the changes log in the control panel.

I remember seeing the first example but unfortunately I now have what you wrote about in the 2nd example.
I cannot find any way of fixing this. Unfortunately I found the mistake listed in the log.
Is there a way to restore it from or using the log id number?
Or, is it wise to try and edit a ged file in the data directory?
What do you think?
Thank you for your response.

So you have a single-parent family. Adding the person really should be easy. Adding parents is business as usual, not?
On the Family tab of any of the involved persons you will have a link "add husband / wife"
Then fill in the missing details.
I would copy & paste that info to a text file first, so you don't need to look it up again.xmanhattan wrote: Unfortunately I found the mistake listed in the log.

You can paste it into the new replacement person if you go into the "edit raw gedcom" dialog.
But be careful with links like 1 FAMS @F765@ because these might not work anymore.
So if it's just the name and two dates + places, just enter them again.

No, nothing is done with .ged files in the data folder. These are for exporting & importing. That's a risky operation if all you need is to reconstruct one single person.

An individual with no name will display as ... ...
Add a new name from the edit menu.
if you deleted the individual and they have a family, then yoy will have a one parent famkly. this will display as "spouse + ... ..."
Go to the family and add a spouse.
Nexttime you have diplucates, you can merge them

Okay, I added the missing husband to the spouse but I still have ellipses showing as another person.
Is there a way to clean this up?
I can work with the data files or the database if necessary.
Thanks to bertkoor and fisharebest!

So you had one family: Jane Smith, single parent to Peter Doe.
Then added John Doe as a new husband to Jane Smith who now is member of two families: with husband John Doe, and parent to Peter Doe.
It should all be one family.
Navigate to the family (so not the Person page but click on "show family") of John Doe & Jane Smith. Delete that family, so John Doe is single again.
Now go to the family of Jane Smith & son Peter Doe.
In the top menu bar find "Change Family Members" and press "add" on the husband's position.
Type the name John Doe, save.

If you search for the person by name and you find it again, then obviously it was not deleted.
Sounds more like either you removed it from a family, or the whole family was removed. In both cases the person's record was no longer linked to any family.
Tip: in the Menu under Lists there's a feature called Branches. I think that's one of the best ways to find a person based on his last name, and it will give you insight in family branches that are candidate for a merge of records.
I always do merges by hand: mark the instance I think best to remove with an X in the surname suffix, copy over some facts, rearrange the families (transferring children is a bit of a pain though) and as a last step remove the persons marked X from families that will automatically be deleted when there's just one person in the family record left.

I distinctly remember deleting the individual and after I re-entered the name of the person and found the same info available, I thought that somehow it restored the data from somewhere. I too am surprised.
I saw the data in the backup copy of the data file and the log file which I downloaded to safety.
In any case, thank you for the additional tips and helping me to better understand how the program logic works.
I looked at the branches as you mentioned and everything looks correct, so I will consider this solved, thank you.
