Hindi relationship names was created by parivarsf
Hello,

I needed some help about creating a module that shows me the relationship with the hindi names. As the Indian/hindi nomenclature for relatives is vast and more complicated I would like to see if I can generate that from the tree.

Any suggestions on where to start?

I have found the relationship names listed in many places online
en.wiktionary.org/wiki/Wiktionary:Reques...amily_relation_names

I have found the custom relationships module

I would appreciate some pointers on where and how I would go about to generate specific names for the relationship.

As I see it, as you follow the edges and relationships , you get to name each edge, and if the last edge has a name that's complete, then we can use that. otherwise it will have to be a combination of relationships, like how people say, chachera bhai (i.e. my uncles, son, i.e. my cousin brother)

what do you guys think?

I don't know whether you are aware, but webtrees already has modules for each language, especially for relationships that vary between languages.
Most of them are rather empty, like the Hindi module: github.com/fisharebest/webtrees/blob/mai...le/LanguageHindi.php
They are in desperate need of a volunteering developer that has some basic coding skills and knowledge of the language.

Here are examples of language modules with dynamic relationships:
github.com/fisharebest/webtrees/blob/mai...e/LanguageFrench.php
github.com/fisharebest/webtrees/blob/mai...anguageSlovakian.php

If you want to help me implement this, then you will need to help me with the Hindi definitions.

We need a list of relationship names, e.g. brother, aunt, grandmother, sister-in-law, etc.

For each of these we'll need a definition and two translations.

The definitions can be fixed or dynamic.

A fixed relationship might be:

spouse->sister = sister-in-law
sibling->wife = sister-in-law

For the translations, we need a "nominitive" and a "possessive" form. e.g.

sister-in-law
sister-in-law's X

The possessive form will be used to chain relationships together, such as "sister-in-law's aunt"

Dynamic relationships are typically ancestors and descendants. For example

father->father->father (N times) => (N-2)x great grandfather

Once you have this information, please create an issue on the github issue tracker.

Eventually, we'll need this for all languages.

Did you see the relationships with current Hindi translation of site?

A few relationship names for Hindi missing are

father->elder-brother=> ताउ
father->elder-broher->wife=> ताई
husband->elder-brother=> जेठ
husband->elder-brother->wife=> जेठानी

Thanks for the tip guys. I just got the email notification today. I will definitely look into those modules and update it as i can. Is there a docker container for webtrees development? It would be easier to get started.

Is there a docker container for webtrees development?

There are multiple actually
hub.docker.com/search?q=webtrees&type=image
github.com/H2CK/webtrees
github.com/NathanVaughn/webtrees-docker

If you want to do development, it may suffice to add a volume for the "app" folder in docker-compose.yaml.

I haven't tried it with v2 yet, but with v1 I have used XAMPP to run it locally and test out small code changes.

Hello.

3 possessive adjectives needed for translating "s" in Hindi "का", "की" and "के" (x, y, z.)

Eg. x for male, y for female, z for common, unknown, male plural or for respect.

Here only y and z are enough. Now we need two types of translation for relationship with someone.

someone'y sister
someone'z brother

This should be straightforward to implement.

If next is a female "s" translated "y" if next is a male or unknown "s" translated "z"

I thought it would be possible
