Hi,

Following that thread: www.webtrees.net/index.php/fr/forum/2-op...family-records#54669
and that one: www.webtrees.net/index.php/fr/forum/help...ith-unmarried-couple

I would like to have a new TYPE of MARR

We do have 3 types at the moment:
1. Civil marriage
2. Religious marriage
3. Registered partnership

Would it be possible to add:
4. Other partnership (or name it as you like)

Also, I would like TYPEs no. 3 and no. 4 to show the label "Partners".

Would this create problems?
Is it possible?
Thank you.

It would be nice to find a very generic term like "Union" that says these two people are connected in a more bound way than just "friends with privileges" but has the same outcome in the family display like "Civil Marriage" where the term "Marriage" is removed but still uses the MARR tag.

I have many friends and relatives in Norway that never got married yet have multiple children, own property together, act like husband and wife. They do not share the same last name, they have kept their names since they, in many cases, represent a farm/family name that means something important to the community they live in.

"Common Law" should also be added to the list as well.

Is "union" too general. All marriages are unions.

Perhaps "civil union"?

Perhaps also rename "registered partnership" to "civil partnership"?

I think what is trying to be accomplished with "Union" is to have a default that is none-committal so as to not offend anyone with a term that someone hates.

"civil union" says to me that civil authorities had some say in the matter, maybe they only declared it in a field some place. Legally they may not be "married" but in their own way they say they are.

Greg,
"Civil union" already exists, at least in French. That is the translation of « Registered partnership ».
Ken,
Yes, you correctly read my mind. I meant any other kind of "Union", with a label of "Partners".

It's nice to have a menu for uniformity, but shouldn't there also be the option to type in anything? Spec doesn't list a limited set of values.

If we have a fixed list of values, we can translate them.
Free text can't be translated.

Any specific details should hopefully be evident from the sources.

How would one change the words "registered partnership" to something else? Because in my country there is no such thing as a registered partnership.

But you are not obligated to use that TYPE. The program is international, not localized.
You can use CUSTOM TEXT to change most text to something else, but is there lacking the correct name for the union you might want to describe?
