uploading updated gedcom; set website offline was created by mariannevanharten
Imagine:
I visit my website and see there are no other users logged in. I have a new gedcom of my tree and would upload it. In the few seconds I jumped to the section to import the new gedcom one of the users logged in and modified a record. Do I see this modification even if it conflicts with the data in my new gedcom.

Is there an option to set the website offline only for other users? Then I can import a new gedcom.

Best regards,
Guido

While you are importing a new GEDCOM file, the tree becomes unvailable to all other users.

webtrees behaves as if it does not exist.

Non-admins may see a message telling them that no trees are available to them.

If the user made an edit before you imported the new GEDCOM file, then their edit will be lost.

While webtrees lacks an option to lock a tree to admin access only, surely the thing to do is to send a message to all users giving a warning of the time when you are going to do anything major such as uploading a new Gedcom?

So you allow users to update records AND you overwrite the whole tree from an external system.

Sounds like you make it yourself quite difficult with data flowing in all directions.

My advice: do all your updates in just one application.

It could work if he reviews the webtrees changes and puts them in to the other system.

That could only work if you have too much free time and nothing else to do than wade through pages of change logs.

There is no other system.
I saw an little mistake in the tree, which I could quick repair using gedcom download - modify gedcom - gedcom upload.

Ouch, I never ever needed to do that.

You do know you can edit any gedcom record as raw text in webtrees, do you?

Yes, I know. But edit a lot of gedcom entries is much easier using GedTool .
