It means that the tag combination is invalid.

OBJE:FILE:TITL is correct
OBJE:FILE:FORM is correct

The FORM tag is generally use to describe the file format, [ bmp | gif | jpg | ole | pcx | tif | wav ]. I’m not sure what URL would indicate!

Where the TYPE tag would indicate [ audio | book | card | electronic | fiche | film | magazine |
manuscript | map | newspaper | photo | tombstone | video ]

Here are the the valid GEDCOM v5.5.1 tags.

n @XREF:OBJE@ OBJE
+1 FILE <MULTIMEDIA_FILE_REFN>
+2 FORM <MULTIMEDIA_FORMAT>
+3 TYPE <SOURCE_MEDIA_TYPE>
+2 TITL <DESCRIPTIVE_TITLE>
+1 REFN <USER_REFERENCE_NUMBER>
+2 TYPE <USER_REFERENCE_TYPE>
+1 RIN <AUTOMATED_RECORD_ID>
+1 <<NOTE_STRUCTURE>>
+1 <<SOURCE_CITATION>>
+1 <<CHANGE_DATE>>

Is there a tool to identify these incorrect labels? I've tried "check for errors" and "data fixes" but there is not an option to do this.

You can export a GEDCOM file and use any GEDCOM validator program, like ShowMeGedcom.

In that context: Is there an overview, how "check for errors" in webtrees works?

Kind regards

I’m not sure what you are asking! A written overview is not available.

Just now a written overview is available (at least in German, but Google translate may help); wiki-de.genealogy.net/webtrees_Anleitung...tratoren#Fehlersuche

"Check for errors" will find this.

Here is an example of it working.

If you say it does not find this error for you, then can you post your GEDCOM data so that we can see it.

Benazzi,

Edited:

If you received a red 1 PHON then this is in error. phone numbers are subtags to event/fact and therefore should be at level 2.

Benazzi,

The GEDCOM Standard v5.5.1 indicates for Individual_Records that phone numbers are subtags to all events and facts. Fact/Event tags are at level 1 in the structure therefore phone numbers would be at level 2.

A red 1 PHON would be are error for an individual!

Many genealogy programs do not understand the GEDCOM Standard and therefore want to make the phone number a fact which it is not.

Yep, but this is not the point that we discussing after some posts. We are discussing why this error was not identified by "check for errors" feature.

This reads to me that it was marked as red. Was it not caught as in error for an individual. I’m confused in your statement. Where is this tag, can you supply the GEDCOM with surrounding tags as well?

The problem is:
- A record ("1 PHON") is labeled in red in the user interface, which indicates an error. This is ok, because the level 1 is not correct.
- The admin function "Check for errors" should find this (based on a remark of Greg). But this function doesn't find this error. This is the issue.

Edit:
Maybe the problem behind is: 2.0 versus 2.1. We are here in the 2.0 forum thread. The function of "Check for errors" was changed in 2.1!

Edit 2:
The forum thread "Help for version 2.0" has an extra line "Queries and requests for help about webtrees 2.1". This is wrong! It should be "... about webtrees 2.0".

Herman,

Because this thread started out as a question about the color of the display in the user interface and was later changed to a discussion about the “check for error” function we have become confused.

A new thread should be opened to discuss the workings of the “check for errors” function and any potential differences between v2.0 and v2.1 since major changes may have occurred between the two checks!

EDIT

I personally don’t use “check for errors” because I know them by heart ;-)

Hi Ken,

Hermann resumed perfectly. I may include that this tag is problably created in older version of webtrees (even in phpgedview. Yes, I'm a old user this software :D). I only manage my reasearch using my website, more than 15 years.

And as Hermann said too, this is an error in 2.0 version. I'm waiting some modules be updated to use 2.1 version.

Benazzi, I can’t comment on “Check for errors”, I don’t use it. My comments are only directed at proper GEDCOM v5.5.1 and the user interface for v2.0 of webtrees.

Now I updated WT on version 2.1 and see dozens of remarks in the check.
I am confused.
